Gerard Scharm alias Sunseek - Biography
Born in Germany, in 1983, as a son of a German father and an Australian mother, his international background had already been set. Spending the first 7 years of his life in Mauritania, it was clear that his childhood would be an adventure! After the first Africa experience, he moved back to Germany, where he started school in 1990.
Europe only lasted 2 years, and in 1992 he moved to Namibia (former South West Africa), where his father had been assigned to assist the economic development of this just liberated country. This is where he spent the largest part of his life, doing most of his “growing up” in terms of teenage experiences, living in the Capital of Windhoek until 2001. Besides school, sport and the usual extra curricular activities, he took up piano lessons at the age of 12, also taking yearly official piano exams with the Royal Board of Music in Cambridge. This is when his passion for music had been triggered, and since then always played a major role for the times to come.
His first contact to mixing was made in Brisbane, Australia, living in a share house with some mates, where there happened to be a setup of two technics turntables and a pioneer mixer. The dark sounds of drum N Bass filled every corner of the house, but his musical style had slowly shifted to trance and electro, and finally, inspired by his visits to various clubs in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, his preference was fine tuned in the sounds of minimal techno, rewawaking the rhythms and beats of his African childhood. This is when he decided to invest in some music gear of his own, an ever since has been filing on his own skills.
After moving to Zürich Switzerland in 2008, it did not take long, and Sunseek had bagged his first residency in the Pacifico Bar, where you can drop by every other Friday to listen to him mix deep house tunes in the early parts of his sets, and then ofcourse diving into a wave of flowing percussive minimal sounds to ignite the night. See you there!!!
